How Fit Are You?

How Fit Are You?

You start your retirement with high hopes and lots of energy to live that perfect dream.

You know all those great things you finally have time to do… visit the grand-kids, books to read, write a book and all the other things on your retirement list.

Then life hits you and wham you have doctor bills and medicines to purchase. That big wad of retirement cash suddenly gets smaller very very quickly.

Months later you finally get back on your feet to find out you are very weak and all your energy is gone. The bright idea of getting healthy again comes to mind as you watch one of those TV ads for a great body and good looking abs. Yep, you are sold on the idea for a physical workout routine – hook, line and dream.

Is a Gym a Good Fit?

Well, before you plunk down that money for that gym membership here are a few things you should think about:

The purpose of a gym is to “shape” the body. Just look at all the young people there pumping the iron. Don’t they have great looking bodies?

Now get real! Do you have the energy to do a 2 hour three day a week Vigorous Physical Workout Routine?

Not really! How fit are you if you have not been actively working out for more than a month!

So you say to yourself, there will be a personal trainer there to help you. Good luck with that!

6 Question To Ask Your Personal Trainer

Here are some questions to ask your personal trainer before you start:

1. Does he/she have your experience of pain, taking various pills, and a out of shape body that you have?

I’m sure he/she knows all the bones and which machine is best to work the muscles.

In his/her training course did he/she learn anything about what obstacles you face just doing daily things like bathing, doing chores around the house or having enough energy for these?

2. Does he/she expect you to push pass your physical limits so you can build those strong muscles?

What are the things he/she will do if you can’t use the 30 pound weights you need to build up your muscle?

3. Is the motto “No Pain No Gain?”

4. What are the safety precautions that are used?

If you have back problem and the doctor limits your weight lift to a set poundage, will he/she push you beyond that limit?

Is there a limit to the amount of movement (range of motion) that your joints can do?

What about the heart and lung capacity?

Not using the safe limits of your body requirements can not only causes you serious pain but also can cause permanent damage to that body part.

5. Which machine will work the best for your limitations?

Are the machines one size fits everyone?

6. Do all the exercises used require the use of machinery?

These are important questions that need to be answered, your health will depend on his/her  knowledge of an older body and how it works compared to a younger body. Remember, this is your body and you will suffer for any mistakes made.

If you “Were” a gym goer before, is your body still in that shape?  Maybe you need a more natural program to get back into shape first?
