Modern Society is Great! HOWEVER!!

Modern society is great! HOWEVER!!

There is always two sides to a coin. Along with the good there is also some bad. The bad is sometimes hard to see especially when there are so many good things to enjoy. Along with these great things, I see three bad effects, but will discuss only the first one at this time.

SITTING

This great convenience is due to all the modern advances that have preceded it. Of course, we have always been able to sit, but that isn’t the problem. It comes down to a health issues for humans.

You see, the human body was not built for long periods of sitting. Most people think they don’t sit around all day because they are active doing a variety of tasks or they are constantly on their feet at work.

Sorry, but your body is with them 24 hour 7 days a week. It keeps tabs on a cumulative bases. What happens over a long period of time is what is important –not on a single work day event!

To understand what I am talking about, let’s look at a money example. When I get paid I put $100 in an account for my lunches for two weeks. First day I splurge and spend $15 on my lunch. I know its covered so there is no problem. The second day I spend the same, no problem there. So I continue taking out for the week. With some simple math you can see that there will be a cash problem during the second week.

This is How the Muscles of The Body Work.

During younger years when we are more active, the muscles get used a lot. As we age, the tendency is to slow down. We sit at computers to work, sit to watch tv,  sit in the car or the bus to go to work and sit all the time we run around doing errands in the car.

During these times, the muscles aren’t getting used so they slowly deteriorate, get weaker. No big deal, you get up and move using the muscles. The problem is the muscle usage during the day doesn’t equal the time the muscles weren’t being used.

Then a person sleeps, which doesn’t require muscle movement. In the morning we start off with a lack of muscle movement from the day before. Sure, some people exercise which helps to maintain the muscles, but slowly over time the muscles are used less.

When retirement comes, many start to travel. That means time spent sitting in planes, cars or other means of transportation; sitting around talking with family or friends.

The muscles slowly grow weaker and then one day it happens you feel stiff when you get out of bed. What happened!

The muscles are showing signs of disuse. Medical terms call it atrophy- when muscles waste away due to a lack of physical movement. The muscle is smaller in size due to the muscle fibers shrinking down.

When it comes to movement and muscles , remember the old adage

“Move It Or Lose It”
