My Why

I worked in the health care system as a registered nurse for 20 years.

I noticed that many times the patients would get caught up in the”health care bureaucracy”. This was a detriment not only to the patient, but to their love ones as well. People had to stand by and watch their love ones slowly lose contact with reality, forgetting their own children and spouse’s names while their bodies slowly wasted away.

The New Health Care System

Over the years, the health care system has changed. It is no longer focused on the patient’s well being. The new  focus is to get the patient hooked on the new modern drugs. These chemical prescriptions line the deep pockets of the MULTI-BILLION DOLLAR pharmaceutical industries, the true controllers of the America’s health care system.

Blindly the doctors and patients followed the well laid plan of the pharmaceutical industries. Doctors weren’t always told the truth about the dangerous drugs they prescribed. The patients were  accustomed to following the doctor’s lead so no one complained. After all their pain was relieved with each pill they took. Their life quickly continued on without a second thought about what prices they would need to pay later.

My Why

When I retired, my husband and I enjoy our new found freedom. We were able to travel and enjoy our lives on our terms. No more long traffic jams going to/from work or needing to run our life according to some one else schedule.

A ll the things I learned at work where soon forgotten. Living the retired life was great.

Then it happened!

The flu brought my life to a halt. After a few days of bed rest, I was ready to return, but somehow I just couldn’t seem to regain all my previous strength and endurance. Little things seem to quickly zap my energy. I was napping during the day, but still unable to return to my old self.

Of course, the doctor had the answer to my problem. A few pills to help with the tiredness and pain and things would be fine. And like a good patient I went alone with the plan. There was change. My daily walks were going shorter, thinking was getting harder and there were lots of new found aches and pains in the morning.

On my next visit to the doctor, I was told the “old age myth”- you are getting older and your systems are slowing down. That’s nothing to worry about. Just take your pills and you’ll be fine.

Flash Back

I was no longer the nurse hearing the doctor tell the patient, I was the patient now!

The writing is on the wall!

It was my turn to take things into my hands. I needed to start over with the basics and get healthy again.
